This extract from “Dubliners” deals with the Eveline’s contrast between the life with Frank and the escape from Frank: in fact during this novel Eveline changes her idea about him.
First of all the narrator describes the perfect world between the two lovers saying why they are in love. He is kind, manly and open-hearted, besides, he is a sailor, so he travels all around the world and she is happy when she thinks her life in every place of the world with him.
But when her father discovers the two lovers they are compelled to see their self in secret: from this moment she changes her idea and her future choosing a life without him. The problem is that she doesn’t want to have an unhappy life and she is forced to escape from him even if he is against. So for this reason she decides to not go up the ship and to not leave with him even though he is shouting her name.
