Epiphany
Epiphany is referred to a narrative technique in fiction mainly used in James Joyce according to which everyone has sudden flashes of perception and inside (capacità di vedere all’interno).
Epiphany is the twelfth night when Christ was visited by the three wise men and his divinity was revealed to the world (James Joyce riceve una formazione gesuitica; utilizzo terminologia cristiana; riscontro nella grazia attuale, San Paolo illuminato sulla via di Damasco attraverso cui capisce che la sua missione era fare proseliti) (Moments of being danno impressioni, epiphanies fanno scoprire qualcosa di nuovo; essere visionari => concetto romantico).
Epiphany derive from a Greek word, epiphainein. It means to manifest. In pre-christian time, it was used to record appearances of gods and goddesses. Traditionally the word escaped this specific religious association. But in our century it has it has been secularized to refer to other non-divine forms of revelation (Joyce secular epiphany).
Joyce was interested in sudden, dramatic and startling moments which seemed to have heightened significance and to be surrounded with a kind of magical aura. The first concept os epiphany was first outlined in Steven Hero (casual incidente attiva l’epifania; epiphany implica la comprensione di sé e degli altri).
