TITLE: Penelope. There is a central position of the character, a female character. The name is refers to the Greek mythology.


STRUCTURE: The extract from the last chapter of Ulysses is composed of one big sentence.


LAYOUT: There is one sentence.


SETTING: The physical setting of the chapter is Molly's bed. Molly' stream of consciousness do not follow a chronological order: they pass from the present to the immediate future to specific episodes of the past. In addition they do not follow an order of cause - effect.


STORYLINE: Everyday life.


NARRATIVE TECHNIQUE: It is Molly's monolog, the female character. Her thoughts are presented by the narrator though the stream of consciousness. Thoughts and impression of Molly are presented by the narrator as well as emerge in her mind.


NARRATOR: The narrator never intervene to explain and to comment Molly's thoughts. As a result he gets maximum objectivity.


READER POSITION: The reader feels disoriented and he has difficulty to follow the stream of consciousness created by Joyce.


LANGUAGE: The feature of the monolog are: the lack of punctuation and logical connections, the use of first person, the repetition of certain words and images.
