  1. SIMPLE PAST: expresses convinctions, memories, it tells the past, something has finished. Ex: "Then a man from Belfast bought the field and built houses in it.."
  2. USED TO: habits in the past Ex: "Her father used often to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick;.."
  3. PAST PERFECT: it refers to a distant past.Ex: "..and the Waters had gone back to England.
  4. PAST PROGRESSIVE: expresses Eveline's intention, what she doesn't manage to do.Ex: "she was going to go"
