The moments of being are particular moments in which the character becomes conscious to belong to a larger and hidden pattern. The moments of being are written in vivid and powerful language that approaches to the language of poetry. An example of moment of being is in the extract “What an extraordinary night” when Clarissa watches outside the window the old lady who is going to sleep. Clarissa understands that she means nothing in the world and when someone dies, life goes on for everyone and as Septimus’ death would be forgotten in a couple of days, everyone’ life and death would be forgotten and destroyed by the time that is going on.
