The essay by Arnold Toynbee deals with the two features of the Industrial Revolution.
It opens with an introduction where the revolution is define as an historycal process.
Also it's economic and social consequencesare illustrated at a global level.
The essayist goes on devolopy his argomentation in order to explain the radical change brought about the Industrial Revolution.
He explains it mainly consisted in the substitution of competition for the medieval regulations which had previously controlled the production and distribution of wealth.
He explains features of industrial revolution,the consequences of this process and the first global consequence two kind of reaction: development of economic sciences and social consequences.
He deals with the passage from the family's production to the industrial's production.
This change caused the increase of population and their moving from country to city and an agrarian revolution: the destrustion of the common-fieldsystem of cultivation, the enclosure of common lands.
Less fields causes the born of small farms and news mechanical discoveries like spinning-jenny,
water frame, compatain's mule and self acting with their advantages.
All these changments caused a new social class composed by great capitalist and so very riches people.
The author considered also the condition of work under factory system: that people were very poor and their living condition were bad.
From this facts he sustains that wealth doesn't produce well being.
The text is efficiency becouse it has a good structure and it explains the facts clearly step by step.
