THE OWL
As the comprehension’s symbol, it represents the light after a problem’s solution. It means knowledge and permits to see truth behind a lie, and to listen to untold words. But being a nocturnal animal it evokes the darkness and the death too. For this reason it has even a negative significance: bird of ill omen.
Maya: the Yucatan owl is “the bird of lament” associated with death.
Navajo and Puebio’s tribes: the owl is an animal to venerate but threatening it.
Europe and America: the owl is the death’s symbol. So it was used to teaching the running when someone had heard its verse, which was a nocturnal attack signal.
England: they who leave where a owl is perched on their tree’s branch, will die.
è The believing of the owl as a death animal, isn’t a superstition.
THE LARK
Shakespeare: the lark is the morning messenger because it starts singing at the first light of dawn.
Ascension’s symbol: it has a vertical flight. So it is the messenger between sky and earth and for the Christians is Jesus’ symbol representing he who has reached the heaven from the earth.
NIGHTINGALE
It represents sweetness and song.
