Textuality » 3A Interacting
The English lesson of 14/9 aimed at introducing literature. During this lesson, we learned the differences between literary and non-literary texts through the book "Art objects" by Jeanette Winterson.
The main difference is the language: literary texts use language that is rather remote from everyday one. Besides, in literary texts, words are used more often in their etymological sense. Thus, literary language creates emotion and energy, and we like books full of energy. This is the reason why we read a book rather than another. In particular, a book becomes a "classic" when it always tells new generations something new.
A literary text is not connected with its author's life; it has a life onf its own. The writer is only a transformation means of a vision of the world. Literature and other arts transform the world.
Therefore, when people are asked to conform (for example, during dictatorships), art does not exist. The cross cultural metting between of life, art and different codes alltogether make up culture.
