1- In the extract taken from Virginia Woolf's essay A Room of One's Own, five hundred pounds represent economic independence for a woman, while the room is the privacy a woman needs to write well.
2- The essayst writes that both intellectual freedom and poetry depend on wealth. But women have not got wealth because they depend always by men because of 20ieth century society conventions. So they can not have freedom of think, ideas and choices. As a consequence they can not write poetry if their social condition will not change.
3- Virginia Woolf says that women have rarely written poetry because only few women had the courage to write what they really thought, even if it went towards the convential thought. They also faced reality and life and went on without men's help.
4- Virginia Woolf thinks that women in the future will write poetry only if they decide to fight for their indipendence and freedom, without fearing conventions and constrictions.
