Tradition cannot be inherited, it implies hard labour tobe acquired.

If you want to be a mature poet you have to find an individual use of language.

The HISTORICAL SENSE is a perception of the presence of the past, and so, of the presence of the literary writing of ancestors.

Tradition can be acquired not only through the use of language, but also in other areas. For example Joyce’s Ulysses runs a parallel with Homer's Ulysses. This is the mythological method, and in this case tradition provides the structure.

The concept of tradition changes  the perception of time: the simultaneous order of all the works of art implies a simultaneous concept of time, and no longer a chronological sense of time.

So tradition is timeless, because it contains all of times: past, present and also future.

In Eliot’s poetry  tradition absorbs he simultaneous concept of time, but Eliot is also the mouthpiece of his time because he was able to shape his message in a language suitable to speak the language of his present showing that all traditional values had been turned upside down

This was his individual use of language where all his ancestors assert theur immortality with strength.
