This is my Argumentative Essay about the Industrial Revolution
THE INDUSTRIAL-CREATIVE REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution, taking place between the second mid of the seventeenth century and the first mid-1800’s, represented one of the most significant processes in European history.
England has been the mother of this turning event, thanks to its scientific way of thinking and the ability to be innovative, thus transforming the relationship between human beings and their world.
To begin with, the application of Science to industry guaranteed technical innovations for the country.
England used new materials (iron and steel) and exploited new energy sources (coal, steam) to improve production in textile industry (steam engine) and launch the iron industry. Arkwright invented the water-frame in 1769, Hargreaves patented the spinning-jenny in 1770, Crompton’s mule was introduced in 1779 and Roberts improved Kell’s self-acting mule in 1825. What is more James Watt took out his patent for the steam-engine in 1779.
Furthermore, improvements to means of communication secured an increase in commerce and made connections between new industrial sites possible. The canal system was developed throughout the county and thousands miles of turnpike roads were built. That is why the first railroad was opened and it became an icon of the Industrial Revolution.
Consequently the application of all such innovations to the productive system secured the substitution of the factory system of production for the traditional domestic system and vouched a great growth of industry.
Secondly, the scientific approach rendered a gricultural advance necessary: the breed of cattle was improved, rotation of crops was generally introduced, the steam-plough was invented and agricultural societies were instituted. As a result agricultural population declined.
Thirdly, as shown in the statistical data of the time, the population progressively grew owing to better life conditions and a higher life attendance.
In addition, the theory of economic liberalism proved fundamental to enjoy the changes. It was based on free trade and made unrestrained economic activity possible. Production and distribution created wealth both in England and Europe.
All things considered, England paved the way for of a modern way of living all over Europe, proving that just free, creative, concrete minds can make a Revolution.
