Who was the real King Arthur?

The real King Arthur was a Celtic leader named Artorius, he who enjoyed
some success against invading Anglo-Saxons.


What are the common characteristics of Medieval Romance?

The common characteristics of Medieval Romance are:

chivalry ideals;

hero-knight and his noble deeds ;

knight's love for his lady;

settings imaginary and vague, or castles, gardens, forests;

mystery and suspense from supernatural elements;

repetition of the mystical number "3" and its multiples;

the hero is braver, nobler and often has the use of magic or other powers;

a magic creature (dragon..) may symbolize the evil.


What are the characteristics of the "hero-knight" in romances?

The hero is braver, nobler and more honorable than the ordinary human; he
may have a disguise to conceal his real identity; he is motivated by
romantic love; he is reared away from his true home in ignorance of

of Chivalry" and how did they guide a knight's life and behavior?

The "10 Commandments of the Code of Chivalry are:

     
  • Thou shalt defend the Church.

  • Thou shalt respect all weaknesses, and shalt constitute thyself the defender of
    them.

  • Thou shalt love the country in the which thou wast born.

  • Thou shalt not recoil before the enemy.

  • Thou shalt make war against the Infidel without cessation, anTd without mercy.

  • Thou shalt perform scrupulously thy feudal duties, if they be not contrary to
    the laws of God.

  • Thou shalt never lie, and shalt remain faithful to thy pledged word.

  • Thou shalt be generous, and give largesse to everyone.

  • Thou shalt be everywhere and always the champion of the Right and the Good
    against Injustice and Evil.

The Code of Chivalry has three main elements: religion, military duty and love.
These ere expressed by honor and loyalty.

A knight wants to be a noble person, so he follows all the commandments, they who
influence all his life and behaviour.


What is courtly love?

It is a nobly and chivalrously expressing love and admiration.


What is not courtly love?

It is not regarded as moral, adulterous. It is not practiced between
husband and wife.
