Up to  5C - T.S. Eliot's Output and Metaphysical PoetryUp to task document list

Structure
The Waste Land is arranged into five different chapters. The introductory chapter is anticipated by a Latin quotation taken from Petronio's Satyricon and the dedication to Ezra Pound.

The text is a Modernist poem which counts over 400 lines. The poeem is in free veerse (different lenghts) and there are many ryhmes outside  any possible ryhme scheme.

Characters and their characterization
There are many characters in the text, arranged into different chapters. The presence of character and their charaterization depends on the meaniing of the chapter. For instance the  first character focuses its attention on the description of nature  and therefore characters do not come to the forefront.

Narrative techniques and use of language
Eliot uses a lot of metephors and figures of speech (Sweet Thames, violet hour, …). Some chapters (?) seems to have an under-chapter underlined from the different line length: for instance from line 266 from 292 of the third chapter).

Themes
The  title has the function to introduce theme. For instance the first section (The Burial of The Dead) deals with the burial of someone who dies. And this is a key to reading that could be used for every section : Death by Water explains Phlebas death, What the Thunder Said has nature as main theme, and so on.
