The Royal
Family and Lady Diana (p.152 Context)

·
Underline the political aims of the marriage between Lady Diana and the
Prince of Wales.

Lady Diana brought glamour and human sympathy to the Royal Family who
needed to come into contact with people.

Lady Diana felt she had only been chosen in order to provide a son and a
heir.

·
Say what aspects of the Princess' life turned her into
the ‘people's princess'.

Lady Diana was a very sensitive and special woman: she was able to get in
touch

with ordinary people and she supported numerous charitable activities: for
example she visited AIDS patients and she supported the campaign against land
mines.

Therefore she was able to keep the title of Princess of Wales, even if her
marriage with Charles had ended in 1996. At the same time she was able to enjoy
herself and help other people.

·
Quote the parts that reveal the royal family's attitude to Lady Diana.

The Royal Family never appreciated or supported her, indeed they wanted to
drive her out of the Royal Family: she felt as if she had been brought in
simply only to provide a son and a heir.

·
Why did the royal family change their minds about taking part to the
funeral?

The royal family change their
mind because
people expected them to partecipate to the funeral, so if they had ignored
Lady Diana's death, people would have hated them.
