SHE DWELT AMONG THE UNTRODDEN WAYS -ANALISYS-

From the title of the poem by Wordsworth I know that is about a lady, it is difficult to understand because he uses an archaic and difficult language.

When I look to the layout I notice that it isn't a sonnet, it is made by two different parts: the second part s explanatory of the first part. The enjambments make the poem quicker.

Firstly there is a description of the place where the lady lived to give us some information about her; it is a rural place in Scotland and the word "spring" suggests a beautiful place, exotic.

The author repeats several times in his poem that very few people know the young girl and this is another curiosity that the author points out.

Again there is an enjambment and then a description of a violet. The poet sees the lady like a violet that is no see in the moss, like the lady by other person. He uses this metaphor to reinforce the concept of unknown and to emphasize the lady's personality.

Moreover he uses alliteration like "half, hidden…".

Secondly there is another comparison of the lady with a star: she is beautiful and rare like a star in the sky. Rhetorical figures help to reinforce the positive idea of the lady.

At this point the author would explain who is this girl and how important is for him. The poet didn't say that she is dead but he uses perception words. The author regrets that she is dead because he was a special person rare and precious.

In conclusion the poet wants to give us a message: some people are important and rare not for his fame, for his way to appear or protagonist bur for his beautiful personality, they are not superficial person that based her life on appearance.
