In these lines Tennyson introduces a very important modern concept: everyone lives in relationship with the world surrounding him/her. It means that the knowledge is the knowledge in comparison between societies and also it comes as a result of relationship. It also means that a lot of Ulysses qualities depend on relationship with other people that share his experience with. Then Ulysses says that being old involves not so much time to live and also that he will fight every day to reach his purpose: “drink life to the lees”. Then Tennyson seems to introduce the concept of simultaneity of time with the three suns, that represent the past, the present and the future.
