Ulysses' analysis (from line 18 to 32)
Ulysses feels to be part of the world, thanks to his knowledge. Experience is compared to an arch, which marks the passing of time, but it is also a weapon that implies a lot of tension to reach the goal, it means that experience is difficult to construct. Experience made him understand that he has not known all the world yet: he is attracted to the untraveled part of it, because man is interested in what he doesn't know.
Margin fades forever and forever when he moves, because during his life, Ulysses went many times beyond them.

After that the character, now old, expresses that breath doesn't mean life: according to him life is action, is knowing the world and making new experiences, it follows that he hates "to rust unburnished" and "not to shine in use". He also adds that life is too little and that "little remains": he is old and eternal silence (death) is coming. Therefore he cannot accept the idea to "store and hoard" himself "for some three suns", that means that he doesn't want a routine-life even for only three years. The reason is that his grey (old) spirit is thirsty for knowledge like a sinking star, which goes beyond "the utmost bound of human thought ", that are limits.
