Context, page 152 - The Royal family and Lady Diana



1) Underline the political aims of the marriage between Lady Diana and the prince of Wales.

"The prince of Wales had chosen a bride ideally suited to bring glamour and a capacity to show human sympathy to a royal family that needed to renew its links with its people"



2) Say what aspects of the Princess' life turned her into the "people's princess".

Lady Diana was a very helpful and humble woman, who was engaged with a lots of charitable activities.



3) Quote the parts that reveal the royal family's attitudes to Lady Diana.

"For them she was an intruder who had brought the Prince little happiness and had disturbed the royal pattern of existence in many unwelcome ways"



4) Why did the royal family change their minds about taking part in the funeral?

Because the Prime Minister Tony Blair persuaded the royal family that an absence of the royal family at Lady Diana's funeral would be considered as an insult for people, that wouldn't permit that.
