"SHE DWELT AMONG THE UNTRODDEN WAYS"

She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:

A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
--Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.
She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!

Poem’s Analysing

The poem was written by William Wordsworth in 1798.

Watching the title I suppose that the poem deals about a girl/woman who for some reasons that I don’t know lives in an uninhabited place. The layout suggest me that the poem is divided in two part: the first presenting the subject and the situation, the second explaining the first. The first part introduce the girl and the background saying me that she live in Scotland (Dove is a Scottish river) and that her quality  is difficult to praise and love because only few peoples know her. In second part the author tries, with metaphor and assimilation, to show how this girl is important to him. He paragons she to a violet hides by the mossy, that is difficult to find and see but that exists and is here. After he compare her to a star, a particular star, the only that is shining and possible to see; we comprehend that for the author the girl is a point of reference. In the ending three verse W.W. expresses his emotions underlines that the girl, who name is Lucy ( bringer of light ) , is ceased to exist, to be. Is interesting notice that the author expresses this situation without use the words died or death; this evidences how the girl was important for the poet and how he doesn’t consider her only generic person, but a girl rich of features. The message of the poet, in my opinion, is that each person is a treasure, but often we aren’t able to watch the positive characteristics of them and then we lose the possibility to know persons that can help ours to improve.
