The use of the language in Coketown is really symbolical. There are lots of anaphoric repetitions to remember the sound of the machines working. It is really evident and as a result the reader feels oppressed by the atmosphere. The words "all fact" are repeated quite a lot in the second part of the extract. That improves the idea of materialism: producing goods seems to be the only thing that matters. So there is a criticism to the Victorian society, to its ideas and moral values. There is a third person omniscient narrator, who knows everything about Coketown. Telling and showing techniques are mixed, even if the showing technique is widely used. The use of impersonality is evident, the narrators writes explicitly "you". Everything seems to be ugly and all the same. All the building are red bricked and getting darker because of the industrial emissions. It is a real sad image of a city that is desert as well. No one is outside, everyone is working.
