 The English language is also rich in its rhythmic variey. The elements are:

a)      Metrical elements

b)      Rhytm of early Saxon verse

It is generally thought that the greatest paoples excel in one art. Examples:

a)      Itlay and France excel in painting

Refutation+example (52-68)

This is not correct because

a)      No art has ever been the exclusive possession of any one country in Europe

b)      There have been periods in which some other country than England has taken the lead in poetry. For instance, in the final years of the eighteenth century the romantic movement in English poetry dominated, but in the second half of the nineteenth century the greatest contribution to English poetry was made by France.

a nation which leads in a particular form in a particular period does not necessarily produce the greatest artists. For example Goethe was the greater man during Romantic movement and he wasn’t English

No european nation would have accompanished what it has, as far as culture is concerned, if other countries had not developed the same art forms.

Statement(86-89 )

The ability of European literature to renew itself depends on two factors:

a)      Ability to receive and assimilate influences from abroad

b)      Ability to go back and learn from its own sources

  3. What is the writer’s main intention?
  4. How does the essayist substantiate his statements?

 

  1. The essayist is addressing to German people during 2nd world war.
  2. Writer's opinions are put forward.
  3. The main intention of the writer is to demonstarate his thesis developing argumentations.
  4. The essayist substantiate his statements with lots of explanations, giving examples and clarifing his concepts.
