  1. How is the comparison life-travel expressed?
  2. What kind of function has the reference on the weather conditions?
  3. How does an intelligent reader understand that the travel is only a pretext?

  1. The comparison between the travel and the sonneteer life is conveyed by the use of possessive adjectives like "mia". Another device used in the text is the approach between the semantic field of feelings and the one of sea travel. As a matter of fact in the first you can put "penser, sospir, desio etc". Instead in the second you find "nave, oblio, mare etc". So this kind of semantic choice highlights the comparison life-travel. Besides an intelligent reader will certainly notice the rhyme between mio-rio, that links the semantic field of feelings with the one of travel.
  2. The reference on weather conditions has the purpose of recalling to the sonneteer's feelings. It means that he is travelling across a difficult period of his life and his mood fell this.
  3. The travel is a pretext to tell about something else because the sonneteer introduces the lyrical I conveying his feelings in a direct way. So, an intelligent reader understands this is only a way to express his mood. Besides a reader has to know that sonnets, but in general poetry is a way to convey meanings, and usually feelings using the language.
