MODULE ONE

Module one’s purpose is to recognize an argumentative text, to analyse it (which part is it composed and function of each part), to find out thesis and to use a specific terminology and so producing a personal argumentative text with relative argumentations and examples.

To learn how write an argumentative text we analyzed three texts:

§  A. Toynbee, The Chief Features of The Industrial Revolution, 1884 (extract)

§  T.S. Eliot, talks broadcast after World War II to Germany

§  Jean-Claude Trichet and Mario Draghi, Corriere della Sera, 29 settembre 2011, pagina 3

Thanks the analysis of these three texts we have learned how an argumentative text is structured: in paragraphs (each one explain a specific argument to sustain the thesis or discuss an eventual antithesis). Each paragraph is supported by examples and argumentations which explain and underline the thesis. To connect each paragraph or the argumentations we found connectives; so we analyze them and we make a personal vocabulary. Finally we try to write a personal argumentative text to prove if we understand how is the function and the structure of an argumentative text.
