The text that I’m going to analyse is a formal letter written by Jean Claude Trichet and Marco Draghi ; they address their letter to the Italy’s Prime Minister.

Like all the letter do, it reports the date (5 August 2011) and it starts with salutation “Dear Prime Minister”

 The first paragraph is an introductory one where the writers use background information to introduce the topic of the letter to the addressee.

The second paragraph presents the problem: “Italy needs to urgently underpin the standing of its sovereign signature and its commitment to fiscal sustainability and structural reforms”. And then it also says that the steps taken by Italy are important but not sufficient.

In the third paragraph Trichet and Draghi made a list of three measures that according to their opinion are very essential for Italy. The first two measures are organized into three points that better explain their idea. As a consequence the third paragraph is an explanatory one.

In conclusion, the sender gave hope to Italy as a country and they trust that the Government will take the appropriate actions.
