"Men Are" - By the Joeys     Analysis

Men are, men are, men are.

Men are strong

Men are tough

Men are surly, men are rough

Men have mates

Men drink beer

Men are brave and don't show fear

The text "Men Are" written by the group The Joeys is a song. The poem that we analyse is only a short piece of the song.

The title "Men Are" foregoes the theme of the text. It tells about men, how they are and what they do.

This text is arranged into a stanza. It has got seven lines. In the text all the verbs are in the simple present.

In every line there is the repetition and the alliteration of the words "men are", this figure of speech allows the reader to remember better the song and creates musicality.

Each line is tidied up by the rhyme. The third and the fourth lines form a rhyme, as the sixth and the seventh ones.

This text put in evidence men's figure. It tells about all the faceting of the man, instead there are some keywords that described the man. With the words "strong" and "tough" the writer may express the way the men deal with the difficult situation and that they are complicated like women. "Surly" and "Rough" the writer may say the men's defects, with "Brave" and "don't show Fear" the author may say the reader men's merits and underscore men don't throw back them but they also face the unpleasant situation.
