Task 2: Population growth is a controversial topic depending on place and time.
Discuss with reference to the documents below.
Taking into consideration the extract from "The Industrial Revolution" written in 1884 by Arnold Toynbee, and in particular the sentence "Coming to the facts of the Industrial revolution, the first thing that strikes us is the far greater rapidity which marks the growth of population", a good reader can understand that thanks to the Industrial Revolution population growth has increased; specifically in 1751 it was 3 per cent and in 1821 it was 18 per cent.
But at the same time some scientific studies show that there has been also e decrease, mostly in agricultural population.
From 1821 on it seemed that there has been a gradual increase in population, but in 1984 the Document Repository of FAO Corporate showed that in the 80s the growth of population decreased.
Nowadays, despite this fact birth rates are increasing: in fact, as the graphic shows, population growth will increase until 2050.
The problem is that poor countries are not prepared to sustain this increase, but the reader must consider that between 2030 and 2050 the number of new births will be shorter that the previous ones.
So developing countries will be able to face this world event.
