CLASS TEST PARCTISE 1

Nowadays work is quite safe. A lot of safety equipments were invented in order to provide security to workers. But during the Industrial Revolution this safety equipments didn't exist, and so people worked with no security.

From 1819 and 1874 factories began to have sever laws to follow. For instance children couldn't work over 12 hours per day, children under 9 years couldn't work in textile industry. Women and children could work maximum for 10 hours per day. In 1874 workers weren't  allowed to work more than 56.5 hours per week.

During the Victorian era children were expected to help the poor families with dangerous jobs and low wages. Children had to leave school at the age of 8 and they were forced to work. Small children were employed to go under machinery to retrieve cotton bobbins. Other children were employed to work in coal mines to crawl through tunnels.

Nowadays the situation is not changed because for example in South Asia and in Africa, children have to work. The reason why families force their children to work is poverty. Because they can make the difference between survival and destitution.

Unfortunately in the world, there will always be people who suffer misery because of poverty. In some countries great capitalist employers make enormous fortunes overworking poor people. Poverty and ignorance often penalize people who need to work in order to earn money: they still suffer bad conditions of work and bad sanity. This is a consequence of the Industrial Revolution and capitalism in general, which produce wealth without well-being. Even if we don't like it, in the future there will maybe always be someone who exploits other people in order to get richer and richer. This phenomenon, named "the survival of the fittest" is the bad consequence of capitalism, must in any case respect and provide safety for workers.
