EEsposito- How Steve Jobs Changed Capitalism
by 2011-10-23)
- (
According to the journalist' s opinion Steve Jobs has changed the idea of the capitalistic system on the basis that consumers don't know what they really want .
Besides markets aren't necessarily conservative and so they don't necessarily have to ponder the conventional consumers' requests.
In addition the journalist points out that, in his opinion, not all good things can be made collaboratively for free or with a race-to-the-bottom but rather through a premium price for a premium product because "you can sustain quality by giving things away".
Furthermore Steve Jobs believed in the principle of the tight control which expressed itself in the refusal to licences to the third parties and tie devices to the suppliers of content. These were outstanding components of Jobs' s economic thought, as a consequence Jobs refused the idea "that everyone works better if it' s open collaborative and non-judgmental". Jobs also believed that the greater brands have products of substance behind them.
Taking into consideration all the foundation of Jobs' thought it's possible to say that his innovations have made us rethink capitalism because the "people in business have been demoted in importance beneath impersonal market forces".
Nevertheless, on the contrary , the market doesn't automatically produce all the good ideas, and some genius have the chance to change the rules. According to the journalist' s opinion Steve Jobs was one of these genius. In fact if Steve Jobs hadn't existed, we would still have had some technological innovations like the MP3 players, the smartphones, the laptops, etc, but they wouldn't have had the same appeal of Jobs' innovations. As a matter of fact his devices have taken off making him a game-changer.
In conclusion it's possible to say that capitalism seems different thanks to what Steve Jobs and his team have achieved because on one side he challenged the ideas of the fundamentalists of the free market, but on the other he also detached from the anti-capitalistic ideas showing that capitalism is not a perfectly self-regulating system.
