I,Too

From the title the reader expects a poem about someone who wants to be a part of a group of people.

The poem is arranged into two stanzas. The first one has 7 lines and the second one 11.

The first line and the last line are very similar, and they may mean that the speaking voice is part of America.

In the first are described the behaviours that the speaking voice has to keep when the company comes into the house can't eat with them. The speaking voice is the darker brother.

In the second stanza he says that tomorrow he will eat with the others and nobody will send him to eat into the kitchen and they will see that he is beautiful and they will be ashamed. In the end he says that he is American too.

The poem has a strong rhythm with short lines. In three lines of the second stanza there is only a word.

I think that this poem was written in the period when black people started to be a part of America.
