I, Too

The text, "I, too", is a poem written by an unknown poet.
From the title I expect the poem is about something referring to the person who wrote it. This is underlined with the use of the pronoun "I".
The poem is organized into two stanzas, the first one is made up of seven lines and the second of eleven lines. The length of the lines changes from line to line.
The title is repeated in the first line and in the last one. There is also the repetition of the same phrases like "When company comes" in both stanzas. There is a chronological reference in the first line of the second stanza, "Tomorrow", that underlines the possibility of a transformation of the present situation.
The poem talks about black men who live in America. They are considered "the darker brother" by society and nobody takes care of them.
The narration is made in the first person (first person speaking-voice) and the protagonist, a black man, talks about himself. With the word "too", he underlines that he is an American citizen like everyone else and he sings America. But the population does not think like him, so they send him to eat into the kitchen when they meet all together; they put him into the corner like something without importance. On such moments he laughs and he eats well, and he grows strong.
In the second part he is already at the table when the company comes and nobody dares say to him to eat in the kitchen because he is already there. So, the people, see how beautiful and how similar to them he is, and they are ashamed. Finally, the population understands that black men are also American citizens.
The poem is charged of meaning and it talks abut a serious problem present in old America.
