I, too

I,too, sing America
I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh ,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes
Nobody'll dare
Say to me ,
‘'Eat in the kitchen'',
Then.
Besides,
They'll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed-
I,too, am America

By the title ‘'I,too'' I can understand that the poem will probably speak about someone he wants to highlight his origin , the origin that he wants to have or his belonging to a place.
The poem is about a man or a woman that feels refused by a company that always send him/her away when people come to visit but he/she hopes that one day the company will stop to do this and then he/she will also be accepted and belong to the company.
The poem is made up of two stanzas but the first stanza has seven lines and the second one has eleven lines. The first stanza refers to the present because there are only verbs in the Simple Present, by the first line the reader can understand that he is in America and he belongs to the country; the adjective ‘'darker'' probably highlights the dark colour of his/her skin this is why he/she fells refused. The second stanza refers to the future since there are only verbs in the Simple Future, it describes the hope of this person who hopes ,one day, skin will not be a problem and finally he/she will belong to the company and to America.
