The Hours - Prologue
The prologue has the function to invite and to intrigue the reader to help him to start the lecture.
In The Hours the prologue describes the scene of Virginia Wolf's suicide. The description is about the objective situation as the time, the place, the background but concerns also to the V. Wolf's thinks. In the letter which she left to her husband emerges her status' awareness and her fatigue to live a life degenerate and destruct of her disease. The situation expressed creates curiosity in the reader that would continue story to understand the causes which brought Virginia to the suicide.
