At the beginning drama was performed in the Church. It was concerned with religious topic and was mean to instruct people who went to church on religion episode and mystery.

A further step was when performances moved out of the church (XVI century). Religious and dramatic performances were offered during the main festival like Corpus Christi in June. So religious performances at the beginning coincided with Corpus Christi procession which moves around the village. Gradually an evolution was recorded: a new form of drama was organized and it took place outside the church where the most relevant event from the Old and New Testament were represented by the guilds.

This kind of plays were called “Mystery plays”. In later time also morality plays developed.

Morality à astrazioni di vizi e virtù à sempre istruire.

Morality pays developed later (end of the XV century more or less). They were performed by travelling companies. They represented the moral teaches in an open place. The main protagonists were abstract vices and virtues. It was only after the tradition of mystery miracles and moralities that plays moved indoors in the banquet halls of noble people or in the common room of universities (ruled by the church à religion institutions offer education).
