The Celts
The Celts began to arrive around 700 B.C.
They arrived from north-west Germany.
They were tall and muscular, had fair skin, blue eyes and blond hair.
They were farmers, hunters, fishermen and metal workers.
They traded iron, tin and silver goods, pottery and cloth.
Their famous leader was a woman, Boudicca, who fought the Romans.
Their priests
The Druidisn was their religion.
Their priests were important not only in religion, but also justice, education and medicine.
They held their ceremonies in the heart of the forest and not in temples.
The Celts worshipped the natural elements ( like the Sun , the Moon...).
Water was regarded as the holy element which generate life.
They believed in immortality and in the transmigration of the soul from one person to another.
They communicated with spiritual world through offerings of precious objects , human sacrifice or animal sacrifice.
Written evidence about the Celts comes from the Romans, after the invasion in 55 B.C.
Reasons for the Roman Conquest of Britain
The British Celts were giving aid to the Celts of Gaul against Rome.
The agricultural and commercial prosperity of the Celts.
