Vic Wilcox worked in his office.  He called on his telephone, he read the file of correspondence and he analysed them. During his job he smoked cigarette and in this office there is a noise of machinery and traffic, a satisfying sound of men at work.  Robyn Penrose was a temporary lecturer in English Literature at the University of Rummidge, she believed that character is a bourgeois myth, the illusion created to reinforce the ideology of capitalism. She would show that the increase of the novel coincided with capitalism’s one. Robyn thought that in nineteenth century  the triumph of novel coincided with the triumph of capitalism and in twentieth century the deconstruction of classic novel coincided with last crisis of capitalism. These two points depended on the idea of autonomous individual self and it is responsible about the control of destiny. Through this consideration the novelist is a capitalist of imagination because this makes a product which consumers didn’t know to want. The first major English novelist was Daniel Defoe, a merchant, the second one was Richardson a printer. The novel was the first mass-produced cultural artifact. Furthermore there is a subjective position in the discourses and every text is composed of many parts of other texts, a product of intertextuality.

The Robyn’s philosophy was “semiotic materialism” and it consisted on the fact that there were no origins but an only production in which people produced them selves in language.

Robyn was a human and she had a natural inclination to try and make the world a better place. In the following part there is a description about her behavior. There is an example of her typical day. In the morning she woke up and she remembered that there was the first day of winter term and she went to the job.
