Postmodernism developed in the first decades of the 20th century,so it includes also our contemporary period. In Postmodernism the concept of authority is discussed and it's different from modernism. Postmodern art is essencialy conceptual and abstract. There is not distinction between high and low art, they come together in artistic production. It also privileges the position of the reader becouse he is who gives a sense to what he reads, sees ans listens too. It implies putting into doubt the concept of truth of a definite thought being the right one. So it's dogma is that there is not truth, it is stable, always worth becouse only truth is transformation, every experience undergoes a new form. In consequence there is not a stable meaning, this implies that words always have different meanings according to what, where and when the reader is. For this reason Post modern art asks a lot of affords in the mind of the reader, it aspected to give a meaning.

The text is an extract taken from a Postmodernist novel Nice Work by one of the most important writers of Post modernism, David Lodge in 1972. The novel develops around two main characters: Robyn (the woman, a teacher of english literature) and Vic (the man, a manager of a big company). All the extract is about the characterization of female character. In order to act in this way the author uses different methods: to begin with, he puts Robyn in contrast with Vic, the first piece is about the way she thinks (she doesn't believe in the conceps of character becouse it is the result of capitalism),  then he gives her a male name, it reminds to Robin Hood (an idealist).
