Unit 6

Listening number six is a recording of a TV programme where a TV presenter asks to a homeless person about his life.

To start with the homeless person says that he was fired from the steal mill where he had been working for twenty years because he become redundant.

He had never been unemployed before so he couldn’t do anything else, so he decided to leave his hometown and he would to try to search a better opportunity in a city.

There he first lived in hotels, but when he finished money he had to live on the streets or when the weathers was bad in underground stations.

He searched for a new job but nobody would employ him because of his appearance.

Moreover he says he found food behind supermarkets in rubbish bins where he usually take food, fruit and vegetables or aluminium teans that he sell to buy some bread.

He had to go to soup kitchens and shelters to eat and the first time he went to the shelter he felt terrible.

First a woman chocked his bag for drugs or alcool than she put it in a locker and after she wrote down his name he was taken to his quarters by a man; they went through a big hall where people were lying all over in the place.

The man hadn’t worked for three years when he finally managed to find a job in a non – profit organisation cleaning graffiti of the walls.

He finally says that he hopes that homelessness is eliminate to give everyone the chance to live a good life.
