HOMEWORK
In my opinion, the purpose of this poem written by Rudyard Kipling, is to make his son (and not only ...) understand what is important in life and how to deal with both good and bad times.
Kipling's message is to know how to get up again in difficult moments, not to enlarge small problems, to be able to face beautiful moments without ever falling into idleness. It is fundamental to mature to become men, to know how to find the right moment to say things and think about the consequences before acting. Knowing how to dream in the right way is very important. When you have learned these things, you are ready to become an adult.
In my opinion, this poem reminds us of the things that matter in life. Nowadays these principles are common to a few people and we always think about our interests without making the right choices. I think that if we rediscover the true values and start to appreciate the little things, the world would certainly be better.
I think, finally, that Kipling did not write a letter but a poem to make sure that the message arrived both to his son but also to all the young people who would have had the opportunity to read those verses.
