Just reading a title you can make conjectures about the possible content of the novel. In the title there is an analogy: “as whiter as Milk, as red ad Blood”. White makes you think of a disease and red makes you think of love and passion. In fact this novel speaks love between Beatrice and Leo and about disease of Beatrice. Furthermore themes of the novel are friendship between Leo and his friends and the teachers who have an important role.

Leo can’t find the courage to speak with Beatrice and he realized that the feelings of Beatrice as so strong that he can’t cope with feelings. So he speak with his friends. They suggest he should write a letter. . he speak with his friends because they can understand his problems. If he talked to Beatrice , he was afraid he was refused. The letter is a text type that once written is definitely address to a person. It is a intimate type of written.

He writes to Beatrice also because the teacher encouraged him to follow their dreams. The teacher, during the lessons, read the students a piece of literature.
