Shopping Mania

Shopping Mania is the title of an extract proposed in the introduction of the chapter about Advertising & Shopping; the following essay will include an analysis of its content. Firstly, the title is made up of two words: shopping and mania. Shopping is an activity that is usually done in free time and during which people buy products. The word mania refers to an obsession and for this reason it carries a negative connotation. Therefore, shopping mania can be described as an obsession of people who buy products they don't need.

The extract is divided into two paragraphs and each one of them is split in bullet point. The first point in the initial paragraph contains the thesis, which is: shopping is a type of therapy. It is interesting to notice that most words mentioned in the first bullet point such as mania, therapy and depressed, refer to the field of medicine. The second bullet point highlights the importance of the sense of satisfaction while buying stuff. In the third section, the writer points out the role of online shopping. The possibility to purchase products from home is without doubt an innovation. I totally agree with him/her because the use of internet will radically change the way we do shopping and represents a great tool for companies.
