Chapter 2:
The main function of the second chapter is to introduce Erica.                                                                                                              During changez's postgraduating trip in Greece he mets her and he starts to have an intimate friendship with her, who is still mourning her boyfriend's death.
After a deeper analysi the intelligent reader can understand that this chapter also has a descriptive function.                                                                                                                                                                                                Changez presents Erica as a divine creature and he identifies her as a perfect woman. Further he describes the setting of the trip in Greece.
The structural element used by Changez is the characterization of Erica. by describing her, he reveals some important aspects of his personality and some point of views of his culture. The characterization was just an excuse to deal with macrotematiche like the contrast between different generes (man vs woman), social classes (Changez vs the riches who were at "IVY")and cultures (He is muslim and Erica is Christian). After all it is clear that the characterization is made by comparison between different behaviors.
