Chapter four:
This chapter deals with Changez's tour in Manatthan with Erica before a party in which he feels intimate with her, and with the dinner at Erica's parents's luxurious home.
For the first time Changez notices that in Erica's eyes there's something broken , something wrong.
During the dinner erica's father annoies Channgez with his point of view about his culture, he criticizes the Pakistanis about their fundamentalism and their society's structure. He feels bridle and upset.
At this point of the story changez reveals an important point:even if  he is muslim he drinks alcool. In his culture he cannot drink alcool. This fact underlines that he is not a strong fundamentalist.
After a few days Changez and Erica do a picnic in central park and she reveals him that is the first time she do so after Chris's death; therefore Changez feels to go deeper and deeper in their relationschip.
The main function of this chapter is to better present Erica and her lifestyle, and to underline her feelings for Changez.
The structural element used by Changez is the description. Throught it he involves the reader in his feelings and thoughts.
