Chapter five:
This chapter deals with Changez's stay in malina, Philippine; and with his reaction to the collapse of the Twin Towers.
When he arrives in Manila he is disconcerted by the setting because he expected a setting similar to that of lahore. Then he tells about a visual confrontation with a filipino driver.
In this chapter Jim told to Changez the story of his life and he defines him a shark, using the same adjective that others attributed to him.
With his colleagues he doesn't feel pakistani, but new yorker; it it like his origins are hidden.
The last day in Manila Changez sees the collapse of the Twin Towers and at first he smiles, not for the suffering and death of people, but for the greatness of america brought to its knees.This is the first symptom of an unstoppable transformation inside him. The status which seemed welcoming him suddently starts to suspect him. He understands that he is a suspect from his search in the airport.
The function of this chapter is to talk about the beginning of Changez's transformation after the collapse of the Twin Towers.
