Charles Darwin and evolution – pages 330 and 331 – exercises.

Exercise 1.

Ideas associated with the name of Charles Darwin:

-          Evolution

-          Genes

-          Natural selection

-          Ideological doubts

-          Growth of pessimism

-          Surviving of the strongest

-          Instability of the Victorian age

Exercise 2.

I found that the picture portraying Darwin as a man with the body of a monkey (or a monkey with the man's head) to express disdain for his theory. Darwin's theory was totally opposite to the previous beliefs and the faithful to the Christian religion supposedly did not accept this change. To express this disagreement the caricature ridicules the scientist using his own theory. Even the name of caricature "A venerable orangutan" quips about his statements on satirizing man descend from monkeys and presenting it as a theory not only absurd but also as a hypothesis dishonorable for the human race.
