1. The English renaissance covers the historical period from 1509 to 1660 the Restoration began.

2. The English Renaissance main feature was its strong Protestant basis, influenced by the Reformation under the reign of Henry VIII. He broke with Rome and declaared that the king was the head of the English Church.

3. The English literature was different form the Italian literature because it lacked the pagan serenity of the Italian Renaissance and was less linked to the visual arts.

4. Humanism in England was also called the “New Learning”. This new literature was influenced by the training in classical numbers of Humanist scholars and translators.

5. It encouraged confidence in the power of human reason to interpret man and nature, in the value of literature as an instrument of reason and in the dignity of modern English as a literaly medium.

6. The Humanism contribuated to development of the English language because in this period it was established in grammar schools all over the countries and in two universities, Oxford and Cambridge.

7. Erasmus of Rotterdam influenced the development of New Learning beacuse he had stressed the importance of studying classical literature for the Christian student.
