 The main functions of chapter three are:

-        -  To put in evidence the American culture and technology;

-        -  To show economic power and meritocracy;

-        -  To show American mentality, the importance of a job;

-        -  A comparison between America and Pakistan;

-        -  Pakistani and their strictly connection with their traditions.

 

In this chapter the novelist, stopping the narration, introduces the Pakistan situation and mentality. The narrator feels himself as a New Yorker, the intelligent reader can understand that New York is a multicultural city and Changez in many aspects finds his origins.

The main functions of chapter four are:

-          -  To show the economic problems of Pakistan;

-          -  To highlight the differences between America and Pakistan;

-          -  To underline the power of the stereotypes;

-          - That Americans watch Pakistani as fundamentalist;

-          - That America and Pakistan did not know something about them;

 

The novelist underline the economic problems of Pakistan in relation with American power. The two countries do not know themselves and a relationship between two different cultures is too difficult.
