The main functions of chapter five are:

-         -  The comparison between America and Pakistan;

The twin towers attack changed the view of the protagonist. It is a symbolism for Changez, “someone had so visibly brought America to her knees”. If at the beginning Changez wanted to act and speak more like an American, after the Twin Towers attack, he came off from America.

The main functions of the chapter six are:

-        -  Relation with Erica;

-        -  Different approaches about love for man and woman;

-        -  Social classes;

-        - Terrorism and discrimination;

-        -  The differences between America  and Pakistan;

-        - New York's changes, not multicultural.

The novelist explains how Changez and New York change after the twin towers attack. While New York feels itself more like America, Changez is looking for a more objective way to observe things.

The novelist uses Changez’s relationship with Erica to show the different way to think of two different genres and cultures.
