CHAPTER 1

It introduces Changez and it sets the narrative strategist -> Dramatic monologue -> The protagonist speaking to a interlocutor ( he doesn't speak but you understand he is there).

The novel offers his reader elements to guide him to the lecture:

- language

- provenience

- jobs of the characters

How does Changez speak? What kind of language he uses?

He uses a medial language to speak and a body language to describe the American. Hamid wants us to reflect to the way that we present us to a person that we don't know and how the American is the prototype of the culture.

The reader is also alerted by a word written in a different graphic: “Mission”  this word reminds to military, to religion, it is a metaphorical word.
