"Ricordiamoci dell 11 settembre" – Analysis
Considering the title, the reader can imagine that the main theme of the poem may be connected to the terrorist attack of 9/11 to the World Trade Center in New York.
The sense of illness felt after the attack is clearly and immediately conveyed by the adjective "orrida" in the first part of the poem: the presence of the alliteration of sound r highlights more the catastrophic situation happened and it makes the sound of planes crashing into the World Trade Center.
The horror caused by the massacre is underlined by the presence of the noun "nebulosa". This noun conveys a negative image and the parataxis makes more evident the sense evoked by the previous adjective "orrido".
The rhyme "cerebrale/mortale" builds a climax referred to the "nebulosa orrida" in order to convey the bloody massacre of innocent people by the terrorists, describing the nebula of mixed organic and inorganic material that was created immediately after the attack. The image is reinforced also by one of the few rhymes in the poem.
In the following lines, the line "come se avessero preso dominio gli Inferi" underlines the giant size of the nebula, made of hate and darkness ("fumo d'odio e di buio"), and the destructive force it had on America, like hell on Earth.
In the last part of the poem, the anthitesis of "Inferi" and "Dio" makes in the reader an idea of hope for all the innocents and their relatives. There is also a concept of communion of different religions ("qualunque nome abbia il nostro Dio").
The presence of anthitesis between "assassino/bambino" and its place in the last rhyme of the poem highlights more the concept of hope to avoid another massacre like the attack of 9/11.
