Ricordiamo dell'II settembre
The title coincides with the first line. The first word is very important. Indeed he says to remember the World Trade Centre bombing: we don't forgive it because we must learn by that experience. This is the reason why the speaking voice makes a list with the horror consequences of the attack (“la nebulosa orrenda carburante e carne, di sangue e materia celebrale”). So he wants underlines the atrocity of the attack because he wants highlight the absurdity of those religious causes produced as its justification. Indeed the speaking voice uses a metaphor of Hades because America became the same place “fumo d'odio e di buio”. Moreover after the speaking voice describes the situation of the aftermath repeats the first line: “Ricordiamoci l'II settembre”. This choice has the function to fix on the reader's mind the importance remembering the attack so that doesn't happen again. Only at the end of the poem the speaking voice introduce the religious problem. The expression “qualunque nome abbia il nostro Dio” allows to reflect on the importance of the religious. Indeed the islamics base their entire life on the stric rules of their own religion. In addition their consider enemies all those who believe in a different God. Instead the speaking voice wants put all cultures in the same level preghiamo ognuno con le nostre preghiere”. The adjective “nostre” has the function to highlighs the presence of differents religions.
Desiderio di pace
Mario Luzi watchs the World Trade Centre bombing as a beginning of the period of peace. Indeed as the title says, a desire for peace lives in the people above all after attacks like this that causes terror. In the poems the speaking voice wants to draw attention to the mix of the population, in particoular in the first 5 lines: indeed he list the different culture that had to mingle in that situation. Moreover the expression “E ora vi richiamerà qualcuno ai vostri fasti” underlines the interlocutor of the speaking voice: the twin towers. Indeed the poet uses the anaphor “risorgete, risorgete” to describe their trasformation in steles. A stele or stela is a stone or wooden slab, generally taller than it is wide, erected as a monument, very often for funeraryor commemorativepurposes. Stelae may be used for government notices or as territorial markers to mark borders or delineate land ownership. They very often have texts and may have decoration. This ornamentation may be inscribed, carved in relief, or painted onto the slab. So there is an antithesis between the towers and the stele: first of all the size of the steles is opposite, the twin towers lose the significant of their immensity. In addition it's interesting the use of the expression “gigli di preghiera”. The white lily is a flower familiar to many, both for its beauty and for the rich symbolic meaning that different cultures have given its . With regard to the religious meaning , it refers to the white lily commonly referred to as the Madonna lily and is associated with the purity of the Virgin Mary, especially in the Catholic Church. So the twin towers became a place of remembrance and prayer. Indeed they are an excuse to try to find true peace. This is the reason why the speaking voice isolates the expression “di pace vera”. Indeed he wants highlight this sentence that is the most important topic of the poem.
